Vernie Meinke

Vernie Sarah Maude Meinke, age 100 of York, NE died Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at York. She was born August 15, 1908 to Edward G. and Vernie Maude (Beishline) Otte on the family farm, rural Bradshaw, NE. On May 12, 1947 Vernie was united in marriage to William “Junior” Meinke in Osceola, NE. Together they moved to Hemingford, NE in 1947 where they farmed. Bill passed away in November of 1977 and Vernie later retuned to York in 1997. Besides helping with the farm, Vernie worked at the Box Butte County Fair for 33 years. She was also a member of Rebecca’s. She enjoyed canning, antiquing, and crocheting intricate pieces.

Vernie is survived by her sister Maxine Carlson of York and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and two sisters Hazel and Susie.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Metz Chapel in York with the Reverend Jeff Wulf officiating. Burial was held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 3, 2008 at the Hemingford Cemetery in Hemingford, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family or York General Hearthstone.
