Delbert "Bill" McDuffee

Delbert F. (Bill) McDuffee age 88 of York, NE passed away Sunday, September 07, 2008 at York. He was born November 11, 1919 at Charleston, NE to Newton C. and Barbara E. (Van Vleet) McDuffee and attended country school while working on the family farm.

On September 6, 1942 he was married to Bertha Esther Schall and together they farmed for many years southwest of York. In the mid 1950’s Bill moved his family to York where he worked several jobs before finding his niche at Penner Motors. He was employed there until his retirement. Bill was a tinkerer and a fix it man. He loved rebuilding small gas engines, woodworking, gardening and could repair or fix just about anything. He had a love of tractors and traveled to many tractor shows throughout the state. He also enjoyed the time he could spend with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, daughter Carolyn Hambleton, Virginia and her husband Ron Helmlinger all of York and a son James and his wife Joyce McDuffee also of York; Nine Grandchildren and many great grandchildren; his brother Gabrial McDuffee of Wheat Ridge, CO; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Bertha, his sister Dorothy, his half sister Ida Gasst, his brother Charles, half brothers Homer and Elmer McDuffee, one great grandson and one great granddaughter.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 11, 2008 at the Metz Chapel in York with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in York. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Fund or to the American Diabetes Association.
