Don McClatchey

Donald McClatchey age 78 of York, NE died Monday, June 23, 2008 at Lincoln. He was born October 23, 1929 in York County, NE to Perl J. and Goldie (Brown) McClatchey and graduated from York High School in 1948. Don was a member of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was a longtime active member of the East Ave United Methodist Church in York. After its closing he became a member of the First United Methodist Church in York. Don was employed at the York News-Times for over 30 years most recently as Circulation manager. Prior to joining the News-Times he worked for the Towle Auto in the tire department for 5 years. He enjoyed being active with his grandchildren, restoring and working on cars and attending car shows throughout the area. On March 27, 1954 he was married to Velda N. Cotner at York.

He is survived by his wife Velda of York, two daughters; Susan and her husband James Watt of Bradshaw, NE and Shelley and her husband David Stamm of Arvada, CO. His grandchildren include Caroline and her husband Tom Scott of Valentine, NE, Andrew Watt and Jenna Watt both of Omaha, NE, Martha Stamm and Kelsey Stamm both of Arvada, CO. Also surviving are three brothers; Rollie and his wife Jean McClatchey of West Des Moines, IA, Denzel and his wife Marjorie McClatchey of York and James McClatchey of Denver, Co. Many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother in law and sister in law J.D. and Verla Hirschfeld and sister in law Rhea McClatchey.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Military graveside services were in the Greenwood Cemetery at York. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
