Lyle McCartney
Lyle E. McCartney, age 70, of rural York, NE died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Bryan LGH West Hospital in Lincoln, NE. Lyle was diagnosed with Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia in November of 2006. He was born November 7, 1939 near York to Floyd and Grace (Butler) McCartney. He graduated from Benedict High School in 1957 and was a member of the Marine Air Wing in Lincoln from 1957-1961. Lyle and Gloria Jean Willcock Hallett were untied in marriage on January 21, 1991 at Las Vegas, NV. He farmed in the York County area his entire life. Lyle’s special interests included camping, gardening, woodworking, and cooking. He was well known for his silly jokes and comments i.e. “your belly button is unbuttoned.” Lyle had an excellent memory for remembering people’s names, dates, and birthdays. He enjoyed going to the Prime Rib Buffet at the Chances R and then to the Yorkshire Playhouse. He loved to travel with his most recent trip being to Yellowstone National Park. He really enjoyed spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Gloria Jean of York; son Kenneth (Deanne) McCartney of Ulysses, NE; daughters, Cindy Boucher of Glendale, AZ, Yvonne Eschenweck of York, and Patti (Dan) Coy of Bradshaw, NE; stepsons, Paul Hallett and special friend Dee Magussen of York, Rick (Jen) Hallett of Lincoln, NE, and Travis Hallett of Omaha, NE; sister Jane (Harold) Christian of York; and special son (dog) Scooby. Also surviving are brothers and sisters-in-law, Todd & Teresa Willcock of York, NE, Robert & Kathy Willcock of Ortonville, MN, Randy Ratzlaff of York, former sons-in-law, Mike (Linda) Eschenweck of Thayer, NE and Barry (Hylee) Horner of Aurora, NE.
Lyle’s grandchildren include Amanda Scott of York, Chrissie McCartney and fiancé Brandon Logston of York, Holden & Caleb McCartney of Ulysses, NE, Nathan (Becca) Eschenweck of Stromsburg, NE, Kasey (Judd) Smith of Lincoln, Cody Eschenweck of York, Tanya Lott of Bradshaw, NE, Ashley Horner and special friend Luke McGregor of Stromsburg, Courtney, Callie, and Corbyn Hallett of Anderson, SC, Madison, Dylan and Kasen Hallett of Lincoln, Chloe and Ethan Hallett of Lincoln and Chase Hallett of Carter Lake, IA. Ten great-grandchildren are also surviving as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding Lyle in death were his parents, twin nieces, sister-in-law Charlotte Ratzlaff, and mother-in-law Margaret Matlock.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Allen Bergstrazer officiating. Military graveside services were in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, York General Oncology or Adopt-A-Pet.
