Elaine McCarthy

Elaine Mary (Rossi) McCarthy 81, died Thursday March 3, 2011 at York, NE. She was born to Michael and Mary (Capra) Rossi on October 30, 1929 in Denver, CO. She was baptized and attended grade and high school at Assumption Catholic Church in Welby, CO. She graduated from Loreto Heights College in 1951.

She was joined in marriage to Joseph McCarthy on August 18, 1956. To this union was born daughter Sharon M. and son Patrick F.

She came to York in 1954 to serve as a home representative for the Gas Co. She was a long time Home Economics teacher in the Benedict, Bradshaw, and York High Schools. She was past president of the York Education Assn. and a member of A.D.K. Teacher Sorority, Home Ec Club, St. Joseph’s Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of America, where she served twice as District Deputy.

She is survived by husband Joe of York, daughter Sharon of Pittsburgh, PA, son Patrick (Renae) of Aurora, NE; brothers: Vincent (Mary), Joseph (Barbara), and Alfred (Connie) Rossi of Denver, CO; sister Veronica (Chuck) Mitchell of Plano, TX; grandchildren: Ashley McCarthy of Eau Claire, WI, Sean McCarthy of Ames, IA, Kyle McCarthy of Aurora, NE, Brendan and Rory McCarthy of Pittsburgh, PA; sisters-in-law Lucille (Don) Spielman, Mary Jane (John) Broderick, Peggy (Tom) Haun, Connie Dugan and brother-in-law James McCarthy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law Margaret Rossi, nephews David Rossi, James Spielman, and Daniel Bevelheimer.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York. Burial was that afternoon at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE. Memorials may be directed to Walk For Life, York or St. Joseph’s School.
