Richard Mayfield

Richard “Dick” Mayfield age 68 of Exeter, NE died Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Exeter. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer, had suffered multiple strokes and had been bedridden for months. Dick was born in Omaha, NE on February 21, 1939 to James Orville and Agnes (Thompson) Mayfield. On March 15, 1979 he was united in marriage to Jean Brockman. He was employed at Horizontal Boring for many years in Exeter. He also enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jean of Exeter; children Vicki Ekeler of Wichita, KS, Jayne (Larry) Engel of Huntley, NE, Karey Weighner of Omaha, Melissa (Garrett) Scamehorn of York and Jim (Rachel) Mayfield also of York. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Celia Janendo of Poughkeepsie, New York, Beverly Davidson and Bobbie Hoff of Omaha, Patty Morton of Exeter and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister Rose Burrus and brother Chuck Hofer.

Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 4 2007 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Mike Neidow officiating. Burial with military honors were in the Exeter Cemetery, Exeter, NE.
