Medora Matthews

Medora E. Matthews, age 90 of Columbus, NE, formerly of York, NE, died Friday, May 16, 2008 at Columbus. She was born July 7, 1917 at Beaver Crossing, NE to Fred and Lena (Waterman) Harriger. Medora was a graduate of Exeter High School in Exeter, NE and was united in marriage to Harold Matthews on June 28, 1943 at Friend, NE. She worked for many years as a secretary at First Federal Bank in York. She was formerly an active member of the First Christian Church in York as well as the VFW Legion Auxiliary where she was a past president. She was also served as a Cub Scout Leader and was a member of the York Rebecca Lodge.

Left to cherish Medora’s memory is her son Allen Matthews and his wife Mary of Columbus; two grandsons, Stephen Matthews and his wife Adriane of Omaha, NE and Brandon Frideres and his wife Sue of Grand Island, NE. Great-grandchildren include: Ericka Matthews of Omaha, and Brandon Frideres Jr., Alex Frideres, and Deanna Frideres all of Grand Island. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, two brothers, Allen and Henry, and a sister, Irene Ivers.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2008 at the Metz Chapel in York with the Reverend Ron Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Exeter Cemetery, Exeter, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
