Irene MaCoy

Irene MaCoy age 90 of York, NE, died Saturday, November 10, 2007 at York. She was born February 22, 1917 to Joseph C. and Mary R. (Foster) Hembery in rural York. Irene graduated from York High School and then attended York College. Prior to her marriage she taught school in York. On April 4, 1942 she was united in marriage to Marion C. MaCoy in York. She worked as a secretary for the Foundry and the gas company until her retirement.

Irene was a member of the First Christian Church in York, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and member and past-president of the York DOES. She was actively involved in her church, was an excellent seamstress, and enjoyed gardening, baking, reading, and traveling. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Left behind is her son Robert (Mary) MaCoy of Waverly, MO; two daughters: Kathy (Larry) Schepers of Marquette, NE and Judy (Mark) Appelhanz of Topeka, KS; grandchildren: Jim (Dr. Janice) Kunkel of Indianapolis, IN; Rob MaCoy of Denver, CO; Michael (Dr. Jennifer) Schepers of Johnson City, TN; Christina (Steve) Cichon of Bozeman, MT; Eric Schepers of Adel, Iowa; Adam (Jenne) Appelhanz, Douglas Appelhanz and Rachel Schultz, Spencer Appelhanz, Andrew Appelhanz, and Darrell Appelhanz – all of Topeka, KS; sixteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Evelyn Folts of Fairmont, NE and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at the First Christian Church in York. Interment followrd at York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church or Tabitha Hospice.
