Ron Maas
Ronald Joseph Maas, age 58 passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at his home in York, NE. God called, Ron answered. As he heard God’s voice welcoming him to his eternal home, Ron knew his suffering from a courageous battle with cancer was over.
Ron was born October 29, 1953 at Gettysburg, SD to Clarence and LaVonne (Voeltz) Maas. He was baptized in the Catholic faith as an infant in Gettysburg and was confirmed in Oakley, KS in 1959. He attended Catholic school in Oakley through 3rd grade and public school through the 6th grade. The family moved back to Gettysburg and Ron graduated from high school there in 1972. Ron served his country by joining the Navy in September of 1972 and served until 1974. He was stationed in San Diego, CA. Following his time in the Navy, Ron worked in Oakley, KS for a short time and then moved to Wichita Falls, TX and worked at Echometer where he learned to be a machinist.
On November 3, 1979, Ron and Dana Jackson were married. To this union, a daughter, Kimberly Sue, was born. In September of 1984, Ron moved to York and worked as a machinist for Hamilton Sundstrand for 24 years. He was on the Emergency Response team and Safety committee. Ron was also a member of the Waco Volunteer Fire Department from 1993 until October of 2007 where he was a fireman and E.M.T. He got satisfaction out of helping others. He also enjoyed sitting on the hill watching storms. He liked to go camping, swim, ski, and fish.
Survivors include: Sandra Brahmstedt of York; daughter Kimberly (Greg Bria) and grandchildren Zackary and Randi Christian and Haylee Bria all of Wichita Falls, TX; sisters, Bonnie Swanson of Taylorsville, UT, and Connie (Robert) Lantz of Beatrice, NE; brothers Donald Maas of Madison, SD, Mark Maas of Mobridge, SD, and Larry (Terri) Maas of Beatrice, NE. Also surviving is his father Clarence Maas of Liberty, IL. Ron was preceded in death by his mother, brother, Clarence Maas, and brother-in-law Jim Swanson.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Metz Chapel in York, NE. Interment was in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family or Relay for Life.
