Agnes Loschen
Agnes Anna Loschen, age 86, of York, NE, died Thursday, June 19, 2008 at York. She was born on December 2, 1921 in the family home southwest of Hildreth, NE, in rural Franklin County to Folkert and Amalie (Fischer) Garrelts. She was the fifth of six children. Agnes was baptized in the family home by Reverend Senkeisen. She was confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran church at Ash Grove, NE. Agnes graduated 8th grade at District 52 in 1935. She then worked as a housekeeper for neighbors until she married. On August 16, 1942, Agnes was united in marriage to Herman George Loschen in rural Shelton, NE and they made their home on the farm in the Wilcox and Hildreth area.
Agnes is most remembered for her creative talents. She made many quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, ceramics and painting and kept busy up until her last illness. Her caring spirit extended to her friends and she was a good advocate for others who needed support and protection.
She was a long time member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Hildreth and at First Lutheran Church in York after her retirement in 1985.
Agnes is survived by her sons, Earl (Marilyn) Loschen of Springfield, IL and Jurgen (Christine) Loschen of Hastings, NE; daughters, Grace (Stan) Schulz of York, NE and Margaret (Jonathon) Carlson of Scottsbluff, NE; grandchildren: Rebecca and Elizabeth Loschen of Springfield, IL; Christina (Scott) Cerveny of Aurora, NE; John Schulz of York, NE; Joe Schulz of Overland Park, KS; Catherine (Tom) Miller of Gainesville, FL; Naomi Wilmer of Fremont, NE; David (Courtney) Carlson of Bellevue, NE; Sarah and Elizabeth Carlson of Scottsbluff, NE. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, two sisters, one grandson and one great-grandson.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth with the Reverend Terry Cosier officiating. Interment was in the Trinity St. Peter’s Cemetery at Hildreth. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Nebraska Synod Lutheran Men in Mission Scholarship Fund.
