Harold D. Long

Harold D. Long, age 82 of McCool Junction, died Friday, November 4, 2005 at Omaha, NE. He was born on May 10, 1923 at McCool Junction to Elmer Dewey and Pearl Luella (Baker) Long. Harold was a truck driver most of his life, working for McAllister Transfer, Film Service of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and finally Bailey Enterprises for Roger and Lenda Bailey of McCool Junction. Harold served in the Army twice, was a member of the Color Guard, held status as Commander of the McCool American Legion Post 341, was a member of the VFW, and served as Cub Master for the Boy Scouts. Harold enjoyed spending his free time fishing and hunting. On December 7, 1991, Harold was united in marriage to Pauline Baarda at the McCool Junction United Methodist Church.

Harold is survived by his wife Pauline of McCool Junction: Son Harold “Butch” D. Long Jr. (Liz) of Fairmont; Three Daughters: Mary Herbek of Hastings; Elaine Scheil of Harvard; and Fern Long of West Palm Beach, Florida; Brother Earl Long of LaVista; Sister Nina Henry of Bellevue; Stepchildren: Norma Wiemer of McCool Junction; Sandra Broderson of Omaha; Laura Clerc of Waverly; Wayne R. (Sue) Long II of Lincoln; Ken Long of York; Joyce Weist of Beatrice; Cathy (Jim) Shaw of Marquette, Michigan; Jane (Jon) Matthews of Marquette, Michigan; Eva (Jack) Smith of Georgia; John (Mary) Newman of Mission, Texas; and Brian Cartmill of Wyoming. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, son Dwight, infant daughter Patsy, Brothers Wayne and Dean, and his previous wife Pauline Scarlett.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 2:00 pm at the McCool Junction United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the McCool Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation will begin Monday evening at 5:00 pm.
