George Liggett
Dr. George Harlan Liggett, Jr., age 84 of York, Nebraska died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at York. He was born August 15, 1923 to George H. and Grace (Guinn) Liggett at Lincoln, Nebraska. George served his country with the Unites States Army from 1942-1944 and then the United States Air Force from 1953- 1955. On September 12, 1946 George was united in marriage to Ione Helen Weis in Omaha, Nebraska.
Dr. George H. Liggett practiced general dentistry for over 45 years and was a member of the Nebraska Dental Society. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York, in which he also held membership with Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the following organizations: Elks, Sertoma, Toastmasters, Boy Scouts, and American Legion.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Ione of York; daughter Martha Liggett of Bethesda MD and her husband Jim Bader of Chapel Hill, NC; son George Harlan Liggett III of Concord, California; grandson Nicholas Jonathan Liggett Sung of Bethesda, MD; brother James Guinn Liggett and his wife Joyce of Sacramento, CA; sisters in law Arlene Hall of Kingwood TX and Mary Margaret Hughes of Omaha Nebraska and husband John as well as nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 am, Thursday, March 6, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York with Father Mark Tasler officiating. Military Interment followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in York. A Rosary was said at 6:30 pm, Wednesday at Metz Chapel.
