Melba Liedtke

Melba E. Liedtke, age 82, of Stromsburg, NE, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at York, NE. Melba was born August 1, 1929 to Harry and Luella (Goesch) Wittmack on the family farm near Shickley, NE. She graduated from Shickley High School in 1946. After graduating from high school she worked at the Elgin Watch Factory in Lincoln.

On December 27, 1952, she was united in marriage to Robert Liedtke at Zion Lutheran Church in Shickley. They lived on the family farm near Thayer. Melba enjoyed working on the farm, gardening, playing and watching sports.

Melba was a long time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Gresham, Ladies Aid, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She served many years on the Gresham Public school board. She was also involved in WIFE and Happy Hour Club.

Survivors include husband Robert of Stromsburg; daughter, Pam (Gerry) George of Waco, son, Rex (Bonnie) Liedtke of Gresham; five grandchildren, Craig (Audra) George of Eagle, Erin (Bryce) Abbey of Kearney, Brenda George (fiancé Nic Smith) of Elkhorn, Megan (Dan) Tesar of Lincoln, and Betsy (Layne) Perkins of Lincoln; and three great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother Don Wittmack of Shickley; five nieces, numerous cousins, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2011 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Gresham, NE. Graveside services were at 1:30 p.m., Saturday at York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
