Lewis Lauderbaugh
Lewis Frederick Lauderbaugh age 81 of York, NE died Friday, June 27th, 2008 in Lincoln, NE after a brief illness. Lewis was born January 15, 1927 in Ogallala, NE to Fred and Lucy (Lauderbaugh) Kuntz. Shortly after his mother’s death, Lewis was adopted by his grandparents, Eli and Ada Lauderbaugh. He was a 1945 graduate of Ogallala High School. Lewis served the United States of America as a member of the Air Force from 1945 to 1948. While stationed in England, he met Sylvia Carrier and they were united in marriage in Ogallala on April 17, 1949.
After marriage they moved to Iowa City, Iowa where Lewis attended the University of Iowa. While in Iowa he worked at the VA Hospital for 10 years, for Hy-Vee for 23 years, and he also farmed in Solon, Iowa for a number of years. In 1982 he moved to York, NE where he operated Lauderbaugh’s Bakery with his son Richard until 1997. Lewis then worked in the bakery at Super Value until he retired in 2000.
He enjoyed traveling to England with his wife and family, as well as, numerous other parts of the country to see family. His other interests included sports, reading, and history.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Sylvia of almost 60 years of York; son Arnold (Verlee) of Coralville, IA; daughter Lucinda (Bob) Rogers of Centerville, Massachusetts; son Richard (Chris) of York, NE; and daughter Eunice Stroud of Iowa City, Iowa; grandchildren: Angela (Mike) Duster of Johnston, IA; Todd Lauderbaugh of Dennison, IA; Darci Lauderbaugh of Coralville, IA; Charmane (Ben) Curry of South Yarmouth, Mass.; John Peterson of Marstons Mill, Mass.; Tammy Lauderbaugh of Sioux Falls, SD; Michael Lauderbaugh of Greenville, TX; Susan Lauderbaugh of Sioux Falls, SD; Kelley Stroud and Justin Stroud of Iowa City, IA; step granddaughter Tina Stroud; and one great grandchild (baby boy Duster) on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son David Ian.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Metz Chapel with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Ogallala, NE. It was Mr. Lauderbaugh’s wish to be cremated, so there will be no viewing. The family will greet friends and neighbors on Tuesday evening, July 1, 2008 at the mortuary from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.
