Rachel Krebbs

Rachel (Epp) Krebbs died May 25, 2009 in the State of Washington. She was born July 7, 1916 in Henderson, Nebraska, one of ten children of Gerhard F. and Anna Epp. She and her siblings attended a one room school near the family farm. To get to high school, she rode a cart drawn by favorite pony Star, stabled each day at her Grandmother Epp’s home a few blocks from school.

Rachel went on to attend Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and there met Norman A. Krebbs, Jr. Norman and Rachel were married at Princeton Theological Seminary where Norman completed his B.D. Norman pastored churches in Illinois, Missouri and Washington as well as serving as a professor and head of the philosophy department at Whitworth College. It was Rachel who provided the strong home foundation for the years of pastoral and educational service, drawing on a deep commitment to family learned from her Mennonite upbringing. Family members, church members and college students alike admired her warm hospitality and great cooking. Together, Rachel and Norman inspired many lives with their active Christian faith and great affection for one another.

Rachel is survived by her daughter, Karen MacLeod, grandchildren Alexander MacLeod, Duncan MacLeod and Katherine MacLeod Pemberton, 8 great grandchildren and three of her brothers, Glen, Allen and Telfer Epp and one sister, Laura Snow.

Graveside services were held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Faith Evangelical Bible Cemetery one mile south of Henderson, NE.
