Condon R. King
Condon R. King age 86 of Lincoln, NE died Friday, December 7, 2007 in Lincoln.
He was born August 12, 1921 to Cleveland and Clara (Swartz) King at Grafton, Nebraska. Condon graduated from Grafton High School in 1939. From May 1942 through October 1945 Condon served in the First Calvary/302nd Reconnaissance Troop of U.S. Army. He served his country in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, Luzon and Bismarck Archipelago. For that service Condon received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with two bronze service stars.
Condon was married May 15, 1949 to Lois E. Myers daughter of Boyd and Doris (Scalph) Myers at York, Nebraska. The couple lived in York until moving to Lincoln in 1970. While in York Condon worked for the H. Ellis Oil Company.
Condon was appointed/elected Adjutant/QM for the State organization of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in that capacity for seven years and then changed to State of Nebraska Veterans Affairs On-The-Job Training Department. When that position was phased out, Condon worked for the Nebraska Library Commission, Visual/Audio Department. He retired in 1987.
Condon was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1609 in York, Nebraska and active for many years. He was a permanent member of the American Legion Bolton Post #19 at York. Other memberships include MOC Pup Tent NE004, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 20, Cotner Lodge 297 A.F. & A.M., York Senior Fun Club. Condon was also an Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska.
Survivors include his wife Lois of Lincoln, sisters-in-law Mildred King and Lois Myers of York, cousins Elizabeth (Howard) Heath of Redding, California, Arlene (Don) Miltner of Lincoln, Marie Swartz of York and Carol Swartz of Grand Island. Among the many nieces and nephews are Doug (Sheryl) King of Lincoln and Ron (Teresa) Myers of Sidney, Nebraska, also grand nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews and a host of dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin sister Carmen Lewis, brothers Lyle, Clifford, Floyd and Lloyd, brothers-in-laws Vern Lewis and Larry Myers, sisters-in-law Elizabeth, Ann and Gladyce, cousins and spouses.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at the Metz Chapel in York with the Reverend Jeff Wulf officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in York. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to veterans’ work which may be sent to mortuary.
