Florence Kennel
Florence R. Kennel age 80 of Polk, NE., died Friday, April 29, 2005 at Stromsburg.
She was born November 28, 1924 in York County to Fred & Frances (Bittinger) Shockey. Florence was a 1942 graduate of Stromsburg High School and received her teaching degree at Kearney State. She taught at the Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School for seven years followed by substitute teaching in the Polk and York County area. She was an active member of the Arborville Congregational Church near Polk, the Arborville Missionary Aid Society and the Polk Legion Auxiliary. Florence had various hobbies including quilting and working in her garden but her true love was her music, playing the violin throughout her life. She would often entertain at nursing homes and senior centers accompanied by her sister Frances on the piano. She was married to Harry C. Kennel on May 23, 1952 at Bradshaw.
She is survived by two sons, Clyde and his wife Barb Kennel of Polk and David and his wife Rochelle Kennel of Grand Island; two daughters, Josie and her husband Doug Crowdell of Benedict and Janet and her husband Mark Dostal of Columbus; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Frances Tonniges of Polk and Freda Shockey of Bradshaw as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry, brother Fred David, an infant brother, brother-in-law Virgil Tonniges and grandson Matthew Dostal.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 2, 2005 at the Arborville Congregational Church near Polk with the Rev. Jim Parker officiating. Burial was in the Arborville Cemetery. Memorials were directed to the church.
