George O. Kaeding
George O. Kaeding, 89 of York, died Wednesday, November 19, 2003 in York. He was born January 31, 1914 on a farm near Benedict in York County to Frederick W. and Johanna (Ehlers) Kaeding. George was a 1931 graduate of Benedict High School and served in the US Army Infantry in the South Pacific Theater during WWII. He married Ruth Osborn on March 23, 1940 in Fairbury, NE. He was co — owner of Stop and Shop Grocery in York for 17 years and owned and operated Kaeding's Market in York for 12 years before retiring. George was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in York, V.F.W., York American Legion Bolton Post #19 and the York Elks Lodge #1024.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of York; daughter, Georgia (Roger) Dietrick of Franktown, CO; sons, Jerry (Christine) Kaeding and Tom (Karen) Kaeding both of York; three grandchildren; brothers, Merle (Evelyn) Kaeding of York and Wayne Kaeding of Beatrice; sister, Irene Smalldon of Fairbury.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 22nd at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 12th & Delaware in York. Interment with military rites was at Greenwood Cemetery, York.
