Bob Jones
Robert V. "Bob" Jones, age 81 of York, NE died Saturday, January 26, 2008 at York. He was born March 21, 1926 at David City, NE to Clyde (C.A.) and Lillian (Webben) Jones and attended David City Public Schools graduating in May of 1943.
Bob was a veteran of WW II enlisting in the United States Marine Corp. He served in the Battle of Iwo Jima, Occupation of Japan.
He then enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln graduating from the College of Business Administration with a B.S. degree in January 1950.
He began his employment with the First Trust Company in York as a Trust Officer and Manager in 1950. In 1972 together with Kelly Holthus and Marion Bonham they purchased the First National Bank of York from E.A. “Lige” and Lorraine Levitt and was elected Chairman of the Board retaining that position until retiring in 1996.
His various business experiences include President of the First Trust Company of York, Chairman of the Board The First National Bank of York, President of First Ban Corp of York, President of the First National Company of York, President of the New Sun Theater Company of York, and Vice President of the Garden Grain and Feed Company of Lewellen, NE.
Bob’s memberships include, Chairman of the York Planning Commission, President of York General Hospital, Director of the Hearthstone Inc. Elderly Housing Corp of York. Director of York Industries, Member of the University of Nebraska Foundation Board of Trustees in Lincoln, the Nebraska Diplomats with the State Department of Economic Development. Director of Nebraska State Fair Park Foundation in Lincoln, the York College Advisory Board, Elk’s Lodge #1024, Masonic Lodge, Sesrostris Temple Shrine in Lincoln, the York Chamber of Commerce serving as past President, a fifty year member of the First United Methodist Church in York, York Country Club and member of the York American Legion Bolton Post. Bob was also Chairman of the York Community Center, Secretary-Treasurer of the York County Agricultural Society, Board of Directors of York Industries Inc and a member of the Nebraska State Board of Health from 1969 – 1971.
He is survived by his wife Gayle of fifty-eight years of York, sons; David and his wife Debra of Muskogee, OK, Dan E. and his wife Jean of Lincoln, NE and his daughter Susan K. and her husband Ron Freitag of Flagstaff, AZ.
Four grandchildren Aaron Jones and Alex Jones of Lincoln and Kelcie Marie Freitag and Andrew Kai Freitag both of Flagstaff, AZ. Also surviving are several nephews including Bill Bissell of Denver, CO, Richard Jones of Colorado and Robert Jones of David City, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Albert and Donald and a sister Barbara Bissell.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in York.
