Jean Johnson
Jean Ann (Smith) Johnson, 74 of Midland, MI, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Bickford Cottage in Midland. She was born on June 3, 1936 in Osceola, NE, the only child of Geralyn H. (Anderson) and LeRoy M. Smith. Jean Ann graduated as Salutatorian of her high school class in York, NE, in 1954 and Cum Laude from the University of Nebraska in 1957, with a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree. She married Robert L. Johnson on December 1, 1956 and after graduation from the university in 1957, moved to Midland, where they raised their family of five children.
Jean Ann was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, past president of United Methodist Women and Midland Mothers of Twins Club, and was a lead teacher at St. John’s Episcopal Preschool from 1979-1986. She was initiated into Chapter CB of P.E. O. in 1973 and became a lifelong charter member of Chapter FA, P.E.O. in 1996. Jean Ann loved to travel both in the United States and in Europe and enjoyed growing flowers, especially roses. Her childhood friends from Nebraska remained “sisters” throughout her life.
Jean Ann will always be loved and cherished by her children, Steven L. (Anne) Johnson of Los Altos, CA, Alan B. Johnson of Waltham, MA, Sue A. (David) Mikan of Pittsburgh, PA, and twins, Kevin R.(Teresa) Johnson of Essexville, and Karin R. Gustin of Midland; grandchildren, Christopher (Kelly) Mikan and Emily Mikan of Pittsburgh, Julia Johnson of Lafayette, CO, Amanda Johnson and Kevin Johnson of Essexville, Johnathon Gustin and James Gustin of Midland and one great-grandson, Jack Lucas Mikan.
Funeral services were January 8, 2011 in Midland. Private family burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, York, NE. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church or the Michigan P.E.O. Fund, Inc.
