Irene Johnson

Irene D. Johnson age 89 of York, NE, died Saturday, January 30, 2010 at York. She was born October 5, 1920 at Verdon, NE to Walter and Pauline (Zentner) Bruhn and graduated from Verdon High School in 1938. On September 4, 1940 she was married to Lawrence “Larry” Johnson at Falls City, NE. Irene was a longtime secretary at the Wichita Warehouse for over 20 years and was a current member of Faith Lutheran Church in York, the LWML, and a member of the church quilters.

She is survived by her son Duane and his wife Phyllis Johnson of Wichita, KS and her daughter Peggy and her husband William Sutter of York; grandchildren include: Brett and his wife Jessica Johnson of Wichita, KS; Jeff Tasset of Orlando, FL; Danny and his wife Dylan Ewing of American Somoa; Michael and his wife Dawn Tasset of Fremont, NE; Shelley and her husband Tim Hourigan of Omaha, NE; Brad and his wife Shannon Johnson of Billings MT; and Taran and her husband Danny Hutchison of Ft Carson, CO; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Norma and her husband Ed Werner of Salem, NE and a brother Robert and his wife Fern Bruhn of Falls City, NE; sister-in-law Bettye Johnson of Falls City, NE; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Faith Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Allen Bergstrazer officiating. Graveside services were held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita, KS. Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church in York.
