Hervey Jensen
Hervey V. Jensen, age 89 of York, NE died Monday, September 7, 2009 at Lincoln. He was born January 12, 1920 at rural Dannebrog, NE to Horace and Christina (Williamsen) Jensen. Hervey received his Electrical Engineering Degree from UNL and a Masters of Education Degree at Colorado. He was united in marriage to Doris Henderson on October 7, 1944 at Collingswood, NJ.
Hervey was the Superintendent of Schools at Ravenna and Culbertson, NE for a number of years. He sold insurance and real estate in the Ravenna, Shelton and Gibbon area as well. Prior to his retirement, he worked at Jensen Lumber from 1980-2000. Hervey was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York, United Methodist Men, Lion’s Club, Rotary Club and was a Team Mates Mentor. He enjoyed playing golf and working crossword and sudoku puzzles, reading, computers, spending time with his grandchildren and just puttering around. Hervey was up-to-date on political issues, both local and national, and was a proud member of the Republican Party.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Doris of York; three sons: Ken and his wife Bev of York, Jay of San Clemente, CA and Ryan and Mary of Lincoln, NE; three grandchildren: Drew and his wife Jane Jensen of Lincoln, Angie and her husband Chad Allsbury of Lindsborg, KS and Lexi Jensen of Lincoln; six great-grandchildren: Marley, Joel, Elijah and Emmanuel Jensen of Lincoln and Holden and Gage Allsbury of Lindsborg.
Also surviving are three brothers: Russell Jensen and his wife Lois of Arizona, Gordon Jensen of Callaway, NE, Bob Jensen and his wife Osa of Scottsbluff, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dwaine.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, York, NE. Private military graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, York. There will be no viewing as it was Hervey’s wish to be cremated. The family will, however, receive friends and neighbors Monday, September 14, 2009 from 7-8 p.m. at the mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
