Marvin D. Hunsche, age 73, of York, died Sunday, June 10, 2007 at York. He was born at Ulysses, NE on July 2, 1933 to Louis and Alma (Kuhlman) Hunsche. He was a 1951 graduate of Ulysses High School and served in the US Navy until April 1954. Marvin was united in marriage to Joan Hoeft at Lushton, NE on December 23, 1954.
Marvin served as a volunteer fireman with the York Fire Department for 25 years and had worked at York Packing for 28 ½ years and managed the York Elks Lodge for 9 ½ years. Marvin enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning meat, making dill pickles & playing cards. Marvin made the best potato salad and jerky. He cherished time with his grandchildren & great-grandchildren and for the last 14 winters spent time in Texas where he relaxed, searched for sea shells, bargained in Mexico and made friends from far & near.
He is survived by his wife Joan of York; daughters, Sue Turner and friend Jeff Calkins of Lincoln and Shelly (Jeff) Wicks of Fairmont; son Steve of York; grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) Turner of Anchorage, AK, Jeff Turner of Seward, Valerie (Jess) Nunnenkamp of Hampton, Aaron (Rhonda) Veleba of Blue Rapids, KS, Lucas and Rebecca Wicks of Fairmont; step-grandchildren, Amanda Short of York, Dan Short of Townson, OK, Elycia (Nathan) Aves of York; great-grandchildren Brooke Turner of York, Sierra Turner of Anchorage, AK, Jared Veleba of Hampton; step-great-grandchildren Colby Short of York, Hannah Short of Townson, OK and Hailey Aves of York; and his sister Doris Talbot of Exeter.
Funeral services were held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Rev. Art Phillips officiating. Military graveside services followed at the Greenwood Cemetery at York. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, Cancer Fund or York Fire Department.
