Richard Hughes
Richard A. Hughes, age 47, son of Rolland E. and the late Marie J. Hughes, joined his beloved mother and brother Donald with God in eternal sleep on January 4, 2008 at York. He was born on October 23, 1960 at Norfolk, NE. Richard, or Rich, as he liked to be called, had a history of heart problems. He graduated from York High School in May of 1979. He had several employers over the years including: Grand Central, Chances R, P.K’s and Northrup King Research Center. He was currently employed by Country Kitchen. He started attending East Texas State University after graduation from high school. Never finishing there, he moved back to Nebraska. Richard was currently enrolled at York College, majoring in history.
Richard also had a love for photography and was a great photographer, taking the majority of the pictures in his senior yearbook. One of Richard’s pictures was selected for an athletic program, something of which he was very proud. Richard also loved storms and another passion was storm chasing. However, you could always find him taking pictures of storms and trying to get that perfect lightning bolt or funnel cloud. He once stated he wanted to become a meteorologist because of his passion for storms. He enjoyed music and those who knew him understood him through his music. He was liked and got along with everyone, young or old, it didn’t matter. He was admired by the youth. He had a knack for historical facts, seldom could you catch him off guard. However, he recently said his college professors were putting him to shame.
Left to cherish his memory is his father Rolland Hughes of York; sister Linda (Dave) Troutman of York; two brothers: Marlin (Tokiko) Hughes of Nijyo Fukuoka, Japan and Michael (Becky) Hughes of Loveland, CO; sister in law Doreen Duncan of Beatrice, NE; nieces and nephews: Gene (Janelle) Troutman and their children Jordan and Rachel of York; Dee Magnussen and her children Alex and Andi of York; Aika Mishel Hughes of Japan; Tess and Breana Hughes of Loveland, CO; Andrea Duncan and family of Beatrice and Shane (Robyn) Duncan and family of Nashville, TN; uncle Jim (Dixie) Krutina of Mountain Home, Arkansas and uncle Rodrick (Shirley) Hughes of Norfolk, NE; cousins: Kim (Jeff) Huck and family of Omaha, NE; Kelly (Carla) Krutina and family of Omaha; David Krutina and family of Omaha; Danny (Kathy) Krutina and family of Omaha; Rhonda (Chris) Thompson and family of Norfolk, NE and Shelly Hughes also of Norfolk.
