Mary Ann Hourigan

Mary Ann Hourigan, age 85, of York, NE, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at York. She was born January 30, 1926 at Sutton, NE to Raymond and Loretta (Buttell) Sharkey. Mary Ann attended school at District 89 and later graduated from Sutton High School in 1944. She worked at the ammunition depot in Hastings for a time before attending and graduating from the Bonnelle Beauty Academy. Mary Ann worked in several different beauty shops in the Sutton and Fairmont area. On September 1, 1947, Mary Ann and Charles P. Hourigan were united in marriage at Sutton, NE. They lived in Grand Island until moving to York in 1952. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in York, Altar Society and Catholic Daughters.

Mary Ann’s greatest joy was being with her children and grandchildren and participating in their activities. She loved attending dance conventions and dance recitals. Her warm smile, unconditional love, and giving nature radiated to all those around her. Even with her health challenges, the strength and courage her faith provided brought her even closer to God.

Mary Ann is survived by three sons, Pat (Jane) Hourigan of Carlsbad, CA, Mike Hourigan of York, Tim (Rochelle) Hourigan of Omaha, NE; one daughter Sue Ann (Bob) Romohr of Gresham, NE; seven grandchildren, Ann Marie Hourigan of San Diego, CA, Michal Hourigan and Erin Hourigan of Carlsbad, CA, Kirby Romohr of York, Kasey Romohr of Lincoln, and Ben Hourigan and Keeley Hourigan of Omaha. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two brothers and an infant brother James, and infant grandson Caden.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 11, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in York. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery. A Rosary was said at 6:00 p.m., Sunday evening at Metz Mortuary.
