Mildred "Millie" Hopkins

Mildred "Millie" J. Hopkins age 85 of York, Nebraska died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at York. She was born on September 30, 1922 at York, NE to Chris and Grace (Greenwood) Andersen. She attended elementary and high school in Bradshaw and following graduation attended the National Business Institute in Lincoln for 2 years. Mildred worked at the Bradshaw Post Office until her marriage to F.K. Hopkins on February 14, 1948 in Grand Island, NE. To this union two children were born, Patrice and Michael. She worked at a telephone operator in York and Bradshaw and also worked at Jean’s Café in Bradshaw for a number of years. She was employed at the Bradshaw Public School as a teacher’s aide and office assistant from 1964 until her retirement. Mildred was dedicated to the Bradshaw School and touched the lives of many children over the years. Mildred was a lifelong member of the Bradshaw United Methodist Church as well as a lifelong member of the VFW Auxiliary. She loved animals, especially her poodle KT, enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son Michael (Susan) Hopkins of Lincoln, daughter Patrice (Ron) Weiss of York and grandsons, Senior Airman Ryan Hopkins of Anchorage, Alaska and Christopher Weiss of Kearney, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband F.K. and brother Donald Anderson.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Bradshaw, NE with the Reverend Jim Corson officiating. Inurnment was at the Utica Cemetery, Utica, NE. There was no viewing or visitation as it was Mildred’s wish to be cremated. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or the church.
