Lucile Hohnbaum
Lucile N. Hohnbaum, age 99 of Lindsborg, KS, formerly of York, NE, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Lindsborg. She was born February 17, 1910 at Thayer, Nebraska to George and Mary (Prather) Downer. A graduate of York High School, she attended Hastings College and later married Kenneth Hohnbaum of Waco, NE. To this union were born four children, Georgia Lucile, Jerry Allen, Willis Lynn “Bill”, and Gale Ann.
Lucile was a House Parent for Mother Jewels’ Home in York and a welfare worker with the York County Welfare office for many years, retiring as Director of Welfare for Polk County (Osceola) Nebraska. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Bethany Nursing Home in Lindsborg, KS.
Left to cherish Lucile’s memory are her children: Jerry Hohnbaum and his wife Becky of North Platte, NE, Bill Hohnbaum of McPherson, KS and Gale Apple of Hastings, NE; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Betty and her husband Jack Myers of Salisbury, MD. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two brothers, Gale and Worth, one daughter, Georgia Jones and sons-in-law, Donald Jones and Daniel Apple.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at York’s Greenwood Cemetery. There will be no viewing as it was Lucile’s wish to be cremated. However, the family will be at the mortuary, Monday evening from 7-8:00 p.m. to greet friends. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
