Todd Hoffschneider

Todd Hoffschneider, age 42 of Fort Smith, AR, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Fort Smith. Todd had colon cancer, which had metastasized to his lungs and brain. He was born on May 28, 1966 at Lincoln, Nebraska to Burton and Joan Blum Hoffschneider. Todd was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church both in Waco, NE. His baptismal sponsors were H.P. Hirschfeld and Beverly Klemsz Bristol (deceased). He graduated from Centennial High School in 1984 and then attended UNL where he received his BS in Agriculture Economics in 1992. Following his college graduation, he worked in the swine production business where he met his wife Sherry Thorn. They were united in marriage at Beattie, KS on December 4, 1993. Todd later attended Concordia University in Seward, NE where he received his Lutheran Teaching Certificate. He and his family were called to Buckley, IL and then Fort Smith where he taught and coached basketball in Lutheran high school and elementary schools. Todd was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fort Smith. He enjoyed hunting, playing golf and took an active interest in Big 12 athletics, especially the Cornhuskers. He was a natural born teacher and loved working with children. Most of all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, and brother.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Sherry and their children, Becky, Rachel and James of Fort Smith, AR; parents Burton and Joan Hoffschneider of Waco, NE; siblings, Allan Hoffschneider and fiancé Julie Wells of Waco, NE, Scott (Jennifer) Hoffschneider of Arlington, NE, Lori (Wayne) Bruns of Waco, NE, Kevin (Jill) Hoffschneider of Ericson, NE; grandmother-in-law Ruth Johnson of Beattie, KS; mother-in-law Glenda (Verle) Thorn-Decker of Hollenberg, KS;. brother-in-law Paul (Brandi) Thorn of Waverly, NE; sister-in-law Tammy Fisher of LaCygne, KS; Also surviving are aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents HR and Bertha (Burhoop) Blum; Erich and Irma (Bulgrin) Hoffschneider; grandparents-in-law Joseph and Marie Thorn; grandfather-in-law Glenn Johnson and father-in-law Robert Thorn.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 25, 2008 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waco with the Reverends Paul T. Kern and Robert Pierce officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family or the donor’s choice. Memorial services were also held at 5:00 p.m., Sunday September 28, 2008 at First Lutheran Church, 419 N. 12th St. in Fort Smith.
