Eleanor Ann Scholz Hoffschneider, age 91, died June 6, 2004 at Paxton, Illinois. Eleanor was born in Seward, NE on December 6, 1912 to Gustav Frederick and Lisette (Ulm) Scholz. Her father and older sister, Erna, were killed in a tornado when she was 5 months old. She is looking forward to getting acquainted with them in her heavenly home.
Eleanor, her mother and her older brother, Gus, lived in Seward until 1915 when her mother married Ado Gerdes and they moved to Garrison, NE. Eleanor graduated from David City H. S. in 1930 and then took her nurses training at the Lutheran Hospital in York. She spent 3 years working there before she became the bride of Clarence Hoffschneider on October 11, 1936 in York. The Lord blessed their union with 2 sons, Dave and Jim and daughter Gretchen.
Eleanor was active in the choir and Ladies Aid at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Waco for many years. Clarence and Eleanor farmed in York County for many years until they retired in 1976 and moved to York. They became members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. In August of 1996, Eleanor moved to Rantoul, IL where she worshipped at Peace Lutheran in Thomasboro, IL. Eleanor was a gracious lady who enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, serving, needlepoint, crossword puzzles and singing. She was a member of the Prairie Village Voices for several years. Her favorite part of the day was the sing-a-long at the nursing home. Eleanor was loved by so many people, especially by the caring staff at Heartland. They always told us how sweet mom was and that she thanked them for everything they did for her.
Eleanor is survived by her 2 sons; Dave (Sue) Hoffschneider of Thomasboro, IL; Jim (Cheryl) Hoffschneider of Ainsworth, NE; her daughter Gretchen (Wesley) Wheatley of Apple Valley, MN; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 half-sisters, Edna Sharp and Frieda Ellis both of Seal Beach, CA; sister-in-law Irma Hoffschneider of York and several nieces and nephews.
