Elroy Hoffman
Elroy Martin Hoffman, age 91, of York, died Thursday, September 8, 2005 a York. Elroy was born November 10, 1913 on a farm near Thayer, NE to Louie and Anna (Kottke) Hoffman. Elroy was baptized December 8, 1913 and confirmed May 29, 1927, both by Rev. Evers at Zion Lutheran Church, Thayer, NE. He attended Zion Lutheran School through the 8th grade, then began helping his father with the farm.
Elroy married Florence Ehlers, January 29, 1939, at Peace Lutheran Church, Waco, NE. To this union was born two children, Karen Kay and James Elroy. They lived and farmed in Polk County until retiring in November 1984, moving to York. The last year and 5 months, he resided at the Mahoney House in York. Elroy was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Thayer, NE. He served the church as elder, secretary and treasurer and was a member of the school board.
Survivors include his daughter Karen Jacobsen and his son James and his wife Kim Hoffman, all of York; Seven grandchildren, Todd Jacobsen and special friend Judy Clark of York, Penny Schneider and husband Jim of Alexandria, MN, Larry Jacobsen and wife Treva, Judy Heidtbrink and her husband Jerod all of York, Josh Hoffman and special friend Liesal van den Berg of Kearney, Jeremy and Leslie Hoffman of York. Six great-grandchildren; Ryan and Rick Hulse, Reid Heidtbrink, Samantha & Courtney Jacobsen and Ty Schneider. Also surviving are his brother Louis and his wife Alma Hoffman of Lincoln, brother and sister-in-laws, Raymond and Helen Donelson and Norman and Betty Larson all of York; many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife Florence, his parents, sister Eleanor and her husband Walter Schroeder and his son-in-law Floyd Jacobsen.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2005 at 10:30 am at the Zion Lutheran Church at Thayer with the Rev. Lee Seetin officiating. Burial will follow at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin Saturday at 2:00 pm at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church or the family.
