Merna Hofferber
Merna E. Hofferber, age 81 of York, NE, died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at York. She was born July 3, 1926 to Elmer and Ruth Mae (Pinneo) Williamsen at York. Merna graduated from Exeter High School in 1941. She worked at the egg plant for four years and the H & H Diner, waitressing for many years, and having ownership from 1971-1973 with her husband. After closing the diner she worked many years for Donrich Supply in York and Geneva, NE. She also was a timekeeper at the Fairmont Air Base during WWII. On July 10, 1956, Merna was united in marriage to Marvin G. Hofferber in Council Bluffs, IA. She attended the First United Methodist Church in York and was a member of the York DOES.
Left to cherish her memory is son: Dan Hofferber of York; two brothers: Ardell (Jane) Williamsen of Pasadena, MD; and Bill (Gwen) Williamsen of York; and four sisters: Betty Hobson of Fairmont, NE formerly Waco, NE; Nancy (Marlan) Cohagan of McCool Jct., NE; Doris Foote of Syracuse, NE; and Sharron (Rick) Wells of Howell, MI. Also surviving are three sisters in-law: Annie Williamsen of San Anslemo, CA; Della Hofferber of Geneva; and Marge Hofferber of Geneva and Chris Williamsen of Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews; and family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Kenneth and Merrill Williamsen; sister Joan Reinsch; brothers in-law: Kenneth, Loren, and Robert Hofferber, Bruce Foote, Richard Reinsch, and Dick Hobson; and sister in-law Ardeen Gough.
Funeral services were Monday, November 12, 2007 at Metz Chapel in York with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Burial followed in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Leukemia Cancer Foundation or the family.
