Peg Hildebrand
Mildred Louise “Peg” Hildebrand, age 87, lifetime York, NE resident, died Monday, June 25, 2007 at York. Peg was born in York on February 26, 1920 to R.L. and Myrtle N. “Oma” (Seng) Kaliff. She graduated from York High School in 1937. She attended Hastings College and then worked for a number of years for the State of Nebraska at the Capitol in Lincoln. On May 30, 1943, Peg was married at her parents’ country home south of York to Miles J. Hildebrand. Peg and Miles celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Peg and Miles owned and operated a pharmacy in York for over 40 years. Peg loved to play bridge and was proud to have been a 50 plus year member and past president of Chapter A, PEO. An avid swimmer, she swam laps every weekday morning at the York Community Center for many years. A certified swim instructor, she taught literally hundreds of children and adults to swim. Peg was also a 50 plus year member, deacon and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in York.
Peg is survived by her three sons, John Hildebrand and his wife Ginny of Mesa, AZ, Miles J. Hildebrand Jr. and his wife Chris of El Cajon, CA and Dan Hildebrand of York. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Paul Hildebrand and his wife Inez, Mark and Carrie Hildebrand all of El Cajon, Paula, Tracy and Katie Hildebrand of Mesa and Alex and Betsy Hildebrand of York. Also surviving is a brother William J. Kaliff of Grand Island. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, sister Kathryn K. Bostrom and daughter-in-law Barb Hildebrand.
A celebration of Peg’s life was held at the First Presbyterian Church of York, Saturday, June 30, 2007, with the Reverend Dick Woolard officiating. Inurnment was at the Greenwood Cemetery in York. Peg has requested that memorials be directed to the Presbyterian Memorial Foundation, Adopt-a-Pet of York or to the donor’s choice.
