Barb Hildebrand

Barbara (Birt) Hildebrand of York, Nebraska passed away suddenly at her home on Monday, March 5, 2007. Barb was born on August 6, 1956 in Kearney, NE to Duane and Lois (Knapple) Birt. Barb graduated from Gresham High School in 1974. She attended Kearney State College and began her teaching career in Holbrook, NE. Barb returned to York and taught at Benedict Public Schools. She continued to teach at Cross County Public School after the two schools merged. Barb was united in marriage to Dan Hildebrand on August 16, 1987. To this union two children were born - Alex and Betsy. Barb was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of York and served as an Elder and a Deacon. She taught Sunday School, Logos, and was a Youth Group Sponsor. She was a past president of Chapter HH PEO, a member of NSEA, and the Cross County Education Association. She loved kids, and was a friend to all. She was always there to help anyone in need.

Barb is survived by her loving husband, Dan and her two children, Alex and Betsy, her mother Lois Birt of York, her sister Deb Figgner and daughter Kiley of Albion, NE, her brother David Birt and wife, Lisa, and their children Brianna, Hannah, and Jake and her mother-in-law, Peg Hildebrand all of York as well as a host of close friends - both young and old. She will be greatly missed by all. Barb was preceded in death by her father, H. Duane Birt and Father-in-law Miles J. Hildebrand.

A celebration of Barb’s life was held on Friday, March 9 at the First Presbyterian Church, in York, with Rev. Michael Eichoff officiating.
