Eugene Henning
Eugene Edwin Henning, age 83, of McCool Jct., NE, died Monday, March 21, 2011 at Fairview Manor in Fairmont, NE. He was born February 1, 1928 at York, NE to Edwin and Bertha (Jeske) Henning. Following graduation from York High School, Eugene attended Brookings State College in Brookings, SD. He was drafted into the Army and received his basic training at Polk Military Base in Alexandria, LA. After basic training, Eugene was sent to specialty training in New Jersey and from there he was sent to work in the Pentagon during WWII. He was honorably discharged when his dad suffered a stroke, returning to the family farm which became his life’s work. In 1975 Eugene and Marilyn Wagoner were married. Eugene was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church, member of the American Legion, the Masons, Eastern Star and Shriners.
He is survived by his caregiver Barbara Slaybaugh; step-children, Irvin (Theresa) Rudasill and their children Kimberly, Thomas, and Riley of Farmington, MO and Carolyn (Paul) Turba and their children Rebecca and Rachel of Elkhart Lake, WI. He also leaves behind a sister Marilue (Gaylord) Becker of Lincoln, NE; nephew Christopher (Susan) Becker and their children Nicholas and Jacob of Lincoln; niece Carol Ann (Robert) Gooding of Knoxville, TN; nephews Mark (Kim) Henning of Seward, NE and Scott (Brenda) Henning and their children Sebastian and Logan of Lincoln.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2011 at the Metz Chapel in York. Military graveside services followed at York’s Greenwood Cemetery.
