Martin Heine
Martin E. Heine age 85 of Thayer was the son of Otto and Emma (Schoeneck) Heine and was born September 6, 1919. He left for his heavenly home Monday, May 23, 2005 at York.
He was baptized on October 6, 1919 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thayer, NE and attended Zion school for 8 years before being confirmed in 1933. Martin graduated from Thayer High School in 1937. He served 4 years in the Army during WWII. He was at Fort Lewis, WA and then was sent to the South Pacific being stationed on the Island of Espirito Santos in the New Hebretes Islands. After returning to the states he was at the Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver until he was discharged on January 6, 1946. He returned home and started his lifetime ambition of farming and cattle feeding. He lived his entire life on the home place. On September 9, 1951 he was married to Marie Welge, daughter of Herman and Martha Welge of Thayer, NE.
Martin held offices in the Zion Lutheran Church for many years and served as Trustee and Elder. He was on the Thayer Public School Board and Waco Public School Board. He was also on the Gresham Fire Board for 27 years. Secretary of the Thayer Cemetery Board and was also a long time member of the Thayer, Bradshaw and York Coop Board.
Martin will long be remembered for his loyalty to his God and country and his many friends.
He is survived by his wife Marie of Thayer, four sons, Roy and his wife Carla Heine, Wayne and his wife Peggy Heine, Karl and his wife Nancy Heine and Kevin Heine all of Waco. Nine grandchildren, Andrea Clark of Hastings, Brad Clark and Craig Clark of Waco, Wade Heine and Audree Heine of Waco, Paige and her husband Doug Glasshoff of Brainard, Lisa Heine of York, Mitchell Heine and Justin Heine of Waco, and one great grandchild Reid Glasshoff of Brainard. Two brothers, Herbert Heine of Waco and Walter and his wife Lucille Heine of York; three sisters Esther Sackschewsky of Benedict, Helen and her husband Erwin Pohl of York, Arlene Joseph of Hampton and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother George, a nephew Thomas Heine and three infant siblings.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 27, 2005 at the Zion Lutheran Church at Thayer with the Rev Lee Seetin officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery at Thayer. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church or to the Lutheran Hour. Visitation begins after 5:00 p.m., Wednesday. Martin’s family will greet friends and neighbors Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Condolences may be emailed to the family at metz@metzmortuary.com.
