Herbert Heine
Herbert A. Heine, age 89, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Stromsburg, NE. He was born to Otto and Emma (Schoeneck) Heine on November 29, 1921 near Thayer, NE. He attended Zion Lutheran grade school in Thayer, NE, Concordia High School and graduated from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, NE. On June 18, 1945 he was united in marriage to Adella M. Brunz in Hastings, NE. To this marriage were born three sons and two daughters.
He was the principal and taught the higher grades at Zion Lutheran School in Hastings for five years and then came back to Waco to farm and raise his family. He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thayer where he played the church organ for many years, taught Sunday School, and held many church offices. He served on the Centennial School Board, and also was a Cargill Seed Dealer.
Herbert is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Kathryn) Heine and William Heine of Waco, NE; two daughters, Peggy (Thomas) Menze of York` and Patricia (Daniel) Vapenik of Elsie, NE; six grandchildren, David and Zane Vapenik, Christopher and Kimberly Heine, and Willson and Abigail Heine; two great-grandchildren, Chance and Montanna of Casper,WY. Also surviving are two sisters, Esther Sackschewsky of York and Arlene Joseph of Hampton, NE; one brother, Walter (Lucille) Heine of York; sister-in-law, Marie Heine of York; and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
Preceding him in death were his wife; one son, Thomas A. Heine; brothers Martin and George; sister Helen Pohl; and brothers-in-law, Paul Sackschewsky, Arnold Joseph, and Erwin Pohl.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thayer, NE with burial at the Zion Cemetery.
