Walter Heidbreder

Walter J. Heidbreder, age 76, of York, passed away March 17, 2008 at York. He was born June 15, 1931 in York, NE to Walter and Mabel (Learned) Heidbreder. He married Colleen “Coke” Larson on January 27, 1952 in York. Walt graduated from York High School, Class of 1948. He was a member of the Nebraska Army National Guard, serving on active duty during the Korean War and the Berlin Crisis. Walt farmed for several years and then drove a truck for himself and others. He was a printer with York Blank Book Company and was a night supervisor at the York Community Center for many years where he enjoyed working with young people in the York Area. Walt retired from Kroy Metal Company and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in York. He enjoyed mowing, doing yard work, loved to hunt, was an avid Husker fan and card player. His greatest joy was taking care of his family.

Walt is survived by his wife Colleen “Coke” of York, NE; daughters Jolene (Ardean) Richert of York, NE, Lori (Terry) Domeier of Geneva, NE; son, Greg (Genie) Heidbreder of Kearney, NE; grandchildren, Jeremy (Melanie) Richert of Marion, IA, Alicia (Robert) Dirks of Omaha, NE, Brady Domeier of Geneva, NE, and Justin Heidbreder of Oklahoma; step-grandchildren, Katie Kuster of Kearney, NE, Carly (Dusty) Spangler of Weeping Water, NE, Heidi (Troy) Dunken of Rochester, MN; his great-grandchildren include Kennan and Emmitt Dirks of Omaha, NE; step great-grandchildren, Keegan, Kaylee, Nyla, Elijah and Audrina Kuster of Kearney, NE; sister, Betty (Pat) Dunn of Navasota, TX; sister-in-law, Joen (Melvin) Gruber of LaVista, NE; one niece, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mabel Heidbreder.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church in York with the Reverend Michael Eickhoff officiating. Military graveside services followed at the Bethesda/Lockridge Cemetery west of York. Memorials may be directed to the York Avenue of Flags or the Bethesda/Lockridge Cemetery Association.
