Ann-Marie Hartman

Ann-Marie Hartman was born in Chicago, IL on April 18, 1947, to George and Marie (Moore) Hartman. She died in Geneva, NE on May 24, 2011, after a short illness.

Ann-Marie started school in Northlake, IL, but when the family moved to the Oelwein area in 1955, she began attending Oelwein schools, from which she was graduated in 1965. In high school she was the first girl to take vocational agriculture. For two years she raised purebred Durocs as part of her classwork. After high school, Ann-Marie earned an associates degree from York College and a Bachelors of Science from Oklahoma Christian College in Oklahoma City, OK. In the 1990’s she earned her Masters of Library Science from the University of Iowa.

Throughout her life she worked as a teacher, factory worker, and reference librarian. She moved to Geneva, NE to be close to her family and worked at Wal-Mart as an overnight clothing processor. Ann-Marie enjoyed history from elementary school until her death. She read extensively and loved to visit museums and historical sites. She was the family expert on British history, family history and church history.

Ann-Marie loved all kinds of animals, but especially dogs, pigs, cows, and cats. She had dogs throughout her life, and had developed fondness for blue heelers. She was always a quiet person, but she touched many lives through her deep generosity and her card ministry. Once Ann-Marie determined to encourage a person, she never gave up. Most of her life Ann-Marie was active in the Westside Church of Christ in Oelwein, IA. Since moving to Nebraska, she has been part of the East Hill Church of Christ in York.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Marie Hartman. Survivors include her sister, Delores Hartman, and niece and nephew, Michaela and Riley Hartman, and her “adopted” sister, Holly Davenport.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2011 at East Hill Church of Christ in York. Women were welcomed and encouraged to wear hats to the funeral service in honor of Ann-Marie. Interment was at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2011 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, IA. Memorials may be directed to York College or the Church of Christ Disaster Relief Fund.
