Clarabelle Harris
Clarabelle “Belle” Scheele Harris, age 87, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at York. Belle was born October 11, 1922 at Omaha to Harry E. and Mary M. (Chladek) Cane. She was a graduate of Gresham High School.
She married Henry W. Scheele in Lincoln on April 17, 1948 and they lived and farmed near Gresham and they had three children, Kathryn, Carol and Brian. Henry died in 1990. In February of 1991, Belle married Howard A. Harris in Gresham and they enjoyed their retirement time together in York until Howards death in 1998.
Belle was a longtime member of the Gresham Presbyterian Church where she had taught Sunday School and belonged to the Mariners Club and Presbyterian Women. She was past president of the WIFE organization and was a member of the Gresham American Legion Auxiliary where she had held several offices. Belle worked for many years as a nurses aide at York General Hospital and she was a life member of the York General Health Care Services Auxiliary and recently received their Distinguished Service Award. Belle enjoyed volunteering at the Hearthstone and especially helping residents on their monthly shopping excursions.
Belle is survived by her three children and their families; daughter, Kathryn Abresch Urbanek and her husband Emil of Ulysses; daughter Carol Wakin and her husband James of Omaha; and son Brian Scheele of Gresham; grandchildren Julie Gruenemeier Scott and her husband Todd of Wahoo, Kipp Abresch of Ulysses, Sarah Moore and her husband Sean of Omaha; Andrew Wakin and his fiancée Allison Meier of Omaha; Jay Scheele and his wife Danielle of Waco, Kirk Scheele of Iowa City, Kimberly Scheele of Lincoln and Eric Scheele of Kearney; great–grandchildren; Logan and Riley Scott of Wahoo, Evan Moore of Omaha, and Saige Scheele of Waco; and step-grandchildren; Robert (Amy) Urbanek of Overland Park, KS, Jeff (Chris) Urbanek of San Antonio, TX, Tobin (Jennifer) Behling of New Braunfels, TX; step-great-grandchildren; Michael, Nicholas, Taylor, Madison and Kennedy Urbanek; Tyler, Kyle and Katie Moore.
Also surviving are her step-son Chuck and his wife Karen Harris of York and their five children and twelve grandchildren; stepson-in-law Mike Brumbaugh of Prescott, AZ and his son Gage (Nicole) Brumbaugh.
Her sister Jean Hatcliff of Denver; her sister-in-law Anne Cane Surufka of Indiana, sister-in-law Arlene Scheele of Waco. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harry Edward Cane, brother-in-law Kenneth Hatcliff, son-in-law Monte Abresch and step-daughter Konni Brumbaugh.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gresham Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mike Eickhoff officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery at Gresham.
