Harriet Hansen
Harriet Gertrude Hansen, age 85, went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2011, at Wapello, IA. Harriet was born on March 17, 1926, to Henry and Gertrude (Vort) Zwiers at Ogilvie, MN, where she spent her childhood growing up where her father owned a meat market. She came to know the Lord as her Savior at Grindstone Lake Bible Camp as a teenager. She married Rev. LeRoy Andrew Hansen on August 28, 1945, at Mora, MN. To their union was added daughter Ruth (Newman) and sons David and Jonathan Hansen. Harriet and LeRoy served the Lord in ministry for over 50 years, serving churches in Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska. Harriet enjoyed teaching children in Sunday School and Good News Clubs using flannel graph materials. She also loved to sing and often sang in the church choir and played her clarinet. Harriet and LeRoy retired in York, NE, in 1980 and lived there until they weren’t able to live in their own home. They moved to Red Cloud, NE, in 2005 to live near son Jonathan. After LeRoy’s death Harriet moved to Muscatine, IA, in 2009 to live closer to daughter Ruth and her family.
Surviving are daughter Ruth and husband Mike Newman of Wapello, IA, son David and wife Judy Hansen of Kansas City, MO, and son Jonathan and wife Deborah Hansen of Chadron, NE; grandchildren: Mark Hansen and wife Tiffany of Siloam Springs, AR, Paul Hansen and wife Abbie of Great Falls, MT, Sara Luthy and husband Tom of Mt. Sterling, IL, Nathan Newman and wife Diana of Dubuque, IA, and Hannah Hansen of Chadron, NE; great grandchildren: Kyra, Keagan and Cayden Hansen of Siloam Springs, AR, Hollie and Amie Jo Luthy of Mt. Sterling, IL, Zoe Hansen of Great Falls, MT; sister Lorraine Nishikawa of Sunnyvale, CA, and brother Lowell Zwiers and wife Ruth of Brandon, MN . Preceding her in death were her husband LeRoy, and her parents.
Funeral services were held on Saturday June 25th at 10:00 A.M. at Metz Mortuary in York, NE with Pastor Jonathan Hansen officiating. Burial was at the York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the Gideon’s.
