Frieda B. Hansen

Frieda Belle E. Hansen age 97 of Fairmont, NE died Monday, May 28, 2007 at Fairmont. She was born September 19, 1909 north of Fairmont, to Charles J. and Kathryn M. (Schaefer) Hansel. She attended rural school until eighth grade then graduated from Fairmont High School in 1929, earning her normal training certificate. She then taught at District 28 in Fillmore County until enrolling in Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1930, completing her courses and earning her grade school teaching certificate. In 1931 she taught in the rural school district on Fillmore/York County line. On July 26, 1932, she married Svend “Jack” Hansen at the Lutheran Parsonage in York, NE. They began their life together in Fairmont, NE and later moved to a farm northeast of Fairmont. Two children were born to Frieda and Svend, Maurice D. and Cheryl Ann. For over 40 years she and her husband were engaged in diversified agriculture and livestock production in Fillmore and York Counties. Frieda was a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church in McCool Jct., NE and active in the L.C.W. holding various offices in that organization. In previous years she was also active in County Extension Clubs, the Blue Valley Neighborhood Club and the McCool Garden Club. Her hobbies were sewing, gardening and quilting.

She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl and her husband Jim of Ainsworth, their three children, Lise and her husband Lyndon Wieseman and their children Laurelyn, Laramie, Lanamarie, Liberty, Lincoln and LuAnnabelle of Lake Geneva, WI, Charles and his wife Cassidy Hoffschneider and their children Hannah, Morgan and Evan of Fremont, NE and Paul and his wife Audra Hoffschneider and their children Ava and Ryan of Lincoln. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law Arlene Hansen of Milford NE and her family including Michael Hansen and his wife Sandy and their children Ben, Ted and Matt of Omaha, Karen & her husband Russ Widdowson and their children Leah, Tess and Edie of Lincoln and Craig Hansen and his wife Ursula Hansen, Nolan and Natalie also of Lincoln and numerous nieces and nephews. Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Svend, son Maurice “Maury” and granddaughter, Abigail, brothers, Arthur L. Hansel and Paul C. Hansel and sisters-in-law Edith M. Hansel and Margaret M. Hansel.

Funeral services were held June 2, 2007 at the First Lutheran Church in McCool Jct., NE. Burial followed at the Exeter Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church, the McCool Junction Community Building Fund or the Kilgore Memorial Library in York.
