James Halstead
James C. Halstead, age 83 of York, NE died Wednesday, September 02, 2009 in York, the only child of Raymond J. and Gladys G. (Chambers) Halstead. He grew up in the Waco, Thayer and Eldorado area, graduating from Thayer High School in 1944. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US. Navy. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to York and graduated from York College. On March 9, 1952 he married Mary Ellen Warwick in Osceola, NE. He went on to teach high school in Waco and McCool Jct. and to work for both Geiger Electric and Halstead Electric before going to work at the York Post Office. He worked there for 31 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post #19.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ellen of York; three sons, Steve of Omaha, Greg of York, Brian and wife Judy of Lincoln; one daughter, Julie Halstead of Racine, WI; one granddaughter and three great grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in York with the Reverend Mike Eickhoff officiating. Private family inurnment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, York, NE. As it was Jim’s wish to be cremated, there will be no viewing or visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials be directed to the First Presbyterian Church.
