Eleanor Haley

Eleanor Marie (Weber) Haley was born July 20, 1916 in Clinton, Illinois to J. Basil and Agnes (McKeown) Weber. She grew up on a farm near Merna, IL and graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Bloomington, IL. She was married to Dale W. Haley on October 24, 1940 at Merna. She and her family moved to York, Nebraska from Bloomington in November 1948.

Eleanor was baptized into the Catholic faith as an infant and was an active member of Saint Joseph Church in York, Nebraska until her death. She was a member in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Joseph Altar Society, TPA, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She enjoyed her family—her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends. She looked forward to the annual family reunion in York. The highlight of the weekend was having the family gather at Mass with the “Haley Family Singers.” She loved cooking for family and friends—it was her joy.

After 94 years and exactly 9 months of God’s blessings on this earth, God called Eleanor’s soul to Himself on Wednesday, April 20, 2011. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, her parents, three sisters, and one brother.

She is survived by a son, Robert (Diane) Haley of Phoenix, AZ; son, Mark (Judy) Haley of Lincoln, NE; daughter Barbara (Ron) Skaden of York; and a daughter, Mary (Ronald) Hawk of Fort Worth, TX; a brother, James (Lois) Weber, sister-in-law, Marge Weber both of Bloomington, IL and a brother-in-law, Robert Benjamen of Arrowsmith, IL. Her grandchildren are: Stacy (Jeff) Buettner, Susan (Jim) Lindstrom, Jill (Scott) Schroeder; all of Holdrege, NE; Christine (Dave) Dotts, Tracey (Lorenzo) Perez, both of Phoenix, AZ; Michael (Laura) Haley, Sheila (Jeff) Tooley, and Beth Haley all of Omaha, NE; Lindsay (John) Crossno of Bonney Lake, WA, Brian Skaden of Lincoln, NE; Kael Skaden of Omaha, NE; Randy (Sandy) Hawk of Beemer, NE; Teresa (Mitchell) Bell, Renee (Joshua) Monaco, James (Irina) Hawk, all of Fort Worth, TX. Her great-grandchildren are: Erik, Katelyn, and Reed Buettner; Jenni and Michelle Lindstrom; Haley and Blake Schroeder; Abigail and Luke Dotts; Noah and Ava Perez; Amelia and Norah Haley; Sam and Jake Tooley; Johnathan and Joseph Crossno; Rylee and Cole Hawk; Amber, Susan, Megan, and Jacob Bell; Leah and Eleanor Hawk.

The Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, York, NE on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery. The rosary was Monday April, 25 at 7:00 p.m., at Metz Mortuary. Memorials may be sent to the family for future designation.
