Helen L Haines
Helen L Haines, age 84 of York, formerly of Wichita, KS, NE. died Thursday, September 02, 2004 at York. She was born April 8, 1920 at Valley, NE to Henry & Letha (Bayless) Gaver and was a member of East Hill Church of Christ in York. For several years she managed a lunch counter in Wichita, KS., then worked as a food service worker in several area public schools.
She was a member of the Sunshiners, the York Quilters’ Club and previously volunteered at the York Area Rest Stop. She served on the Governor’s Council on Aging and was instrumental in the development of the York Senior Center. She enjoyed playing cards, studying her bible, was an avid reader and was formerly a member of the Home Extension Club in Wichita, KS. Helen loved traveling and enjoyed a hot air balloon ride in her later years. She was married to Joseph Haines on May 14, 1943 at York.
She is survived by one son, David (Janet) Haines of Wichita, KS two daughters, Connie (Terry) Davis of Wichita, KS and Bonnie (Lonnie) Nuzum of Phoenix, AZ;
Five grandchildren, Christie Kessler, Shelley Ramsey, Amy Becker, Scott Davis and Casey Haines all of Wichita; Five Step Grandchildren, Justin, Jade, Jarred, Jamison and Joel Nuzum all of Pisga, IA, eight great-grandchildren, four step great grandchildren.
Also surviving is a niece, Sharon (Ron) Hirschfeld of Benedict, NE two nephews, Larry (Mary) Gaver of Lincoln, NE and Bob (Thea) Gaver of York, stepsister, Bernice Hanson of Arlington, NE; three sisters-in-law, Jean Gaver & Esther Gaver both of York and Audrey Gaver of McCook, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Wilma Haines & Gladys Salzbrenner and three brothers, Glenn Gaver, Hank Gaver, and Chuck Gaver.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Saturday at the Metz Chapel in York with Rick Eldred officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in York. Memorials may be directed to the family.
