Hilda Haack

Hilda M. Haack age 95 of York, NE died Thursday, July 2, 2009 at York. She was born December 8, 1913 to Wilhelm Carl and Bertha Elizabeth (Lutz) Haack at rural Cordova, NE. She was baptized on December 29, 1913 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cordova, NE and was confirmed on March 24, 1929 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Western, NE. Over the years Hilda worked for Haack Supply, was a dispatcher for Yellow Cab, worked at Holland House, Tiffen & Duncan’s Café, and at York Laundry. She lived previously in Cordova, Storm Lake, IA, North Platte, NE, Western, and has resided in York since 1937. Hilda was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York; a member of the LWML, served in seven branches of the Lamplighters of AAL, and was a Sunday School Teacher for over 40 years. She began each day with devotions and reading her Bible. She loved animals, especially dogs and enjoyed working outdoors.

Surviving is a sister-in-law Dorthy Haack of York; four nephews whom she considered her family: The Reverend Lon Haack of San Francisco, CA, Randy and his wife Kathy Haack of Greeley, CO, Bill and his wife Jody Haack of Columbus, NE and Dennis Haack of York. Also surviving are great nieces and nephews: Lee Haack, his wife Erica and their son Carter of Lincoln, Kris Haack of Lincoln, Ryan Haack and his wife Sarah of Lincoln, Kiley Haack of Columbus, and Chelsea Haack also of Columbus. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers LeRoy and Rheinhold, and one sister Edna Kaufmann.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Lon Haack officiating. Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m.Thursday in Zastrow Cemetery, Cordova, NE. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1-9 p.m. and Wednesday 9am-9pm at the mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Hour, Lutheran Bible Translators, Emmanuel Lutheran Church or York Adopt-A-Pet.
