Mildred Goodban
Mildred V. (Siebler) Goodban, 93 of York, died in her York home on November 8. She was born to William and Hattie (Hyatt) Siebler in Aurora, NE on November 7, 1917. Mr. Siebler commenting on his 16th child told the newspapers they were calling this one “quit”; however, she had two younger brothers. Mildred was married to Everett Goodban on January 31, 1939 in York. Her parents, 10 brothers, 7 sisters and husband preceded her in death.
She is survived by sons Richard and wife Ursula of Lincoln, Roger and wife Nancy, daughters Marilyn and partner Sharilyn of Wynnewood, OK, Charlene Henninger of Lincoln; 7 grandchildren Mark, Kevin and wife Jenny Goodban, Heather Anne Goodban, Charlie & Travis Henninger, Jenny Goodban, Kristy and husband Kevin Kusek; 4 great grandchildren Megan & Kelsey Goodban and Dillon & Joseph Kusek; sister-in-law Gay Anne Siebler; many loving nieces and nephews and special friend Clifford Hulse.
As an active homemaker Millie was resourceful in providing good meals and stylish clothes for her family. Her gardens were bountiful and beautiful. Her tailoring skills won prizes at the County Fair.
In the late 1950’s Mrs. Goodban was the Lincoln Journal and Star paper agent in York.
Mildred bowled on a league, played cards with her husband and friends, danced and traveled great distances for extended family celebrations where she was known for her sense of humor.
Millie walked everywhere in town, enjoying the beauty of gardens and homes. Known by some as the Daffodil Lady, she was an enthusiastic fund raiser for the American Cancer Society. Several years her team came in first at the Relay for Life.
A choir member, chairman of the board and elder of the First Christian Church Mildred could be counted on in times of sickness and sorrow as well as birthdays and weddings. Mildred baked pies and bread for friends and neighbors, to cheer their spirits and heal their bodies.
In 1999 the town of York honored her as the Yorkfest Queen. She believed she served with the best King, Dr. Wempe. Mildred was a member of the First Christian Church, Chapter HH PEO and the York Country Club.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 15 at 10a.m in the First Christian Church at York. Viewing and visitation was at the family home, 1214 Lincoln Ave. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, PEO Scholarship Fund or the charity of your choice.
Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery.
