Velma Goertzen
Velma V. Schneider Goertzen age 92 of Henderson, NE, died Tuesday, November 21, 2006 in Lincoln. She was born on March 12, 1914 in rural Fairmont, NE to August and Elizabeth (Urbach) Miller. Velma was married to Clifford Schneider at Washington, KS on June 26, 1930 and they had four children; Frank, Larry, Clifford and Carol. She then married Albert Goertzen at Henderson on November 14, 1992. She was a currently a member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church at Henderson and had been a member of the United Methodist Church at Fairmont. Velma worked as a volunteer at Fairview Manor, taught bible school and belonged to the Women’s Club. She was active in her respective communities and was an avid card player and enjoyed gardening.
She is survived by her children; Pastor Frank and his wife Betty Schneider of Grand Island, Larry Schneider of Fairmont, Clifford and his wife Glenna Schneider of Glendale, AZ and Carol and her husband Dr. Jack Moomey of Evans, GA; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; her sister-in-law Viola Miller of Omaha; step-son Larry (Judy) Goertzen of Salina, KS; step-daughter Virginia (Leon) Guhr of Mound Ridge, KS; eight step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two brothers and five sisters.
Services were held Monday, November 27, 2006 at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson with the Reverend Weldon Martens officiating. Burial was in the Exeter Cemetery at Exeter, NE. Memorials may be directed to The Bethesda Radio Broadcast or to the Grace Children’s Home.
