Raymond Goertzen

Raymond Lee Goertzen age 71 of Bradshaw, NE died Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Lincoln, NE. He was born June 6, 1938 in rural York County, NE to Isaac and Hilda Lucy Marie (Magwitz) Goertzen and was a lifelong York County farmer. Raymond served in the U.S. Army from 1957 – 1961 and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York He enjoyed attending antique tractor pulls, loved to farm and took pride in his mechanical ability putting it to use on the farm with his equipment.

He is survived by his son Carey Goertzen and his fiancé’ Sarah Boardman both of Bradshaw and his daughter Jeryl and her husband Bob Owens of Phoenix, AZ. His grandchildren include Cody and Casey Goertzen, Megan and Brandon Boardman and Paige and Parker Owens. Also surviving is his sister Anna Marie and her husband Hubert Gerken of York; his nieces include Kristi Maneely of York and Lisa Holl of Omaha; and many cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. Burial will be in the Mennonite Brethren Cemetery northwest of Henderson, NE. Visitation begins Monday evening from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm and then on Tuesday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm at the mortuary. His family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
