Margaret Geiger
Margaret Alice (Doyle) Geiger, age 95, lifetime resident of York, NE died Thursday, May 14, 2009 in Lincoln, NE surrounded by family. She was born November 23, 1913 in York County to Peter and Elizabeth (Flood) Doyle. She graduated from St. Ursula’s Academy in 1931. She attended Merici College where she studied business. She completed Normal teacher training and taught for a brief period of time. Her other work experience was related to business. She worked as bookkeeper and secretary for KGBZ Radio Station, an engineering firm in Auburn, Nebraska, and the Bell Clinic of York, Nebraska, where she worked for seven years. During her time at the Bell Clinic, she met Velmor Geiger and they were united in marriage on June 24, 1942 in York. Together they owned and operated Geiger Electric. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York, the St. Joseph’s Altar Society, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, serving as Grand Regent.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Carol (Ronald) Varner of Lincoln, Margaret (Luciano) Medel of Lincoln, and Daniel (Caryn) Geiger of Superior, CO; eight grandchildren include: Jon and Daniel Varner, Megan Katz, Miguel and Maria Medel, Lyndsey and Jordan Geiger, and Vanessa Tremain; eight great-grandchildren include: Emily, Michael, and Kathryn Katz, Taylor and Nathan Varner, Stephanie Jensen, Parker and Amelia Blaney; and one great-great-grandchild, Madison Mah. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Velmor, four sisters: Elizabeth Jeffrey, Ann Geis, Mary Sloan, and Nancy Whitaker, and grandson, Sean Michael Varner.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York with Father Mark Tasler officiating. Burial followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in York. There was a rosary at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Metz Mortuary. Memorials may be given to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mass offerings, or family choice.
