Dorothy Garren

Dorothy L. Garren, age 97 of York, NE, died Friday, February 06, 2009 at York. She was born September 29, 1911 at Ayr, NE to Julius and Mary (Heaton) McCumber. Dorothy was married to Harold Mitchell in 1941 at Grand Island NE. She was later united in marriage to Lewis M. Garren on January 6, 1962 at Topeka KS. Lewis died in 2003. Dorothy and Lewis moved to Stromsburg, NE in 1975, then to Kearney, NE in 1980, and finally to York in the mid 1980’s. She was formerly a waitress having worked in various café’s in Kansas. Dorothy was a previous member of the Topeka Missouri Synod Lutheran Church but currently attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York.

Dorothy is survived by her nephews Richard McCumber of Grand island, NE, Wilbur McCumber of Wood River, NE, Marlin and his wife Martha Johnson of Stromsburg, and nieces Joan and her husband Jack Jensen of Omaha, Maxine Smith of Columbus, NE and LaVonne Sorensen of Iowa. Preceding her in death were her parents, both husbands, her brother Andrew McCumber and four sisters, Verna Wilson, Kathryn Anderson, Nora Belle Seward and Evelyn Johnson.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 am Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the Metz Chapel in York with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in York. Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran church in York
